The Nigerian Army said it will create a formidable partnership with neighbouring countries including Cameroon and Chad in order to see an end to the insurgency.

Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, chief of army staff, made this disclosure on Monday, February 8.

Attahiru, who addressed journalists at the Army Super Camp 1 Ngamdu in Yobe state, said he is anxious to end the war against Boko Haram terrorists and other criminal elements.

The chief of army staff also revealed that to achieve this, he has met with the war commanders on the “critical requirements” to see the war to the finish.

According to him, there would be an improvement to the welfare of the troops in the theatre of operations.

He added that efforts are ongoing to acquire boots, uniforms and protective gears in a couple of weeks, Channels TV reports.

Speaking on rotational policy, Attahiru said he will replace soldiers who have served long in the northeast in months while also ensuring that arms and logistics are provided to enable soldiers to fight effectively.

He said:

“We are bringing out things, you can see Operation Tura Takaibango in tandem with forces from the Republic of Cameroon. We shall be bringing in the Çhadians to ensure the annihilation of the Boko Haram in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that in a coordinated effort towards ending the menace of Boko Haram insurgents and bandits, the new service chiefs travelled to Borno state.

The visit on Sunday, January 31, is the first movement of the new service chiefs to Borno which is the theatre of war against Boko Haram since their appointment.

They were led by the chief of defence staff, General Lucky Irabor in what is believed will redefine the fight against the insurgents.
