The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has said it received a vessel carrying a huge quantity of crude oil from men of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operation Base (FOB).
The vessel, MT Preye I, was reportedly intercepted by the Navy on Bonny waterways at about 6.15 pm on January 10, 2020.
A statement from the public Affairs department of the anti-graft agency said 11 crew members of the vessel were arrested.
The arrested crew members the document listed are Tunji Ishola, Friday Ikuonu, James Friday, Jerry Amarh, Ezekiel Udoh and Austin Dani. Others are Chigozie Jonathan, Ajala Ahmed, Emmanuel Okeoghene, Ojakovo Anthony and Onaimor Nisdom.
Handing over the vessel and crew members to the EFCC on Tuesday, FOB commander K.O. Oguntuga said, “The vessel suspected to be carrying an unspecified quantity of stolen crude oil and her crew were arrested at about 1815 hours on January 10, 2020. We have conducted preliminary investigation on the substance, and we are handing them over to you for full scale investigation and prosecution, if possible.”
EFCC Deputy Detective Superintendent Akinsola Babajide said the matter will be diligently investigated.
