Sunday Igboho: Reactions as Yoruba activist, supporters storm Igangan

Reactions in manifold have continued to trail the cyberspace following the arrival of a popular Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho in Igangan after the expiration his seven-day ultimatum to the Fulani herders mandating them to vacate the community.

It would be recalled that Igboho, also a secessionist, had a week ago visited the community in Ibarapa East local government of Oyo state to issue quit notice to herdsmen residents in the area after accusing them of perpetrating criminal activities.

He was reportedly said to have insisted that Seriki, a popular herder, must leave the town, saying so many people fingered him to be behind the insecurity in the area.

On Friday, January 22, the popular activist and his boys stormed the Fulani settlement in Igangan community amid jubilation and anxiety of possible fracas.

Nigerians on social media have now been reacting to the report of Igboho’s presence as gathered by Legit.ng.

A social media user with the name Ajorosun of Ibadan said:

“I may not support you in every other thing, but in battle of pursuing the Fulani herdsmen that have been killing, rapi’ng and extorting our people, Sunday Igboho, Yoruba race is behind you! Flexed biceps.”

Another social media user said: “The craziest part about human being is, they are still going to come out and criticize Sunday Igboho for this action but deep down we all know we need someone somewhere to stand up for us.”

“Aare ona kakanfo is there, Alaafin is there, the Governor of Oyo state is there but one way or the other it’s Sunday Igboho that is leading a battle against the herdsmen/bandits in the prestigious city of Oyo,” another user said.

Another social media said: “An elderly man once told me about this Sunday Igboho. The summary of the whole story was that this man is a fearless warlord and Jazz man.”

Tobi Adepoju Samuel said:

“This is the first time I’m watching the Sunday Igboho interview, I have also read a lot of comments. This is a failure of our leaders, difficult to discuss the herdsmen because of our country poor leadership, but how long can people take this sh**t in their communities?”

Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde has maintained that no one has the right to ask anyone to leave any part of the country.

In a tweet on Friday, the Oyo state governor also stressed that “enemies are not people of any tribe or ethnic group but anyone engaged in criminal activities.

Makinde made this known when he received the new commissioner police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko.
