NPFL: Rivers United ends Kano Pillars unbeaten run

Rivers United ended Kano Pillars 12-match unbeaten run in the Nigeria professional football league on Wednesday.

The Stanley Eguma’s tutored side produced arguably one of their best performances of the season to see off the inform Kano Pillars.

Two goals either side of half time were enough to hand the Pride Rivers all tr points at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in an NPFL matchday 26 tie.

Surajo Ayeleso kept the visitors in the game in the opening 5 minutes, saving well from Joseph Onoja.

Two minutes later, Kazie Enyinnaya who saw his effort narrowly miss target with Suraj Ayeleso beaten.

Rivers United finally went in front in the 10th minute, Sunday Adetunji’s superb blinder find the top corner from 15 yards out. It was the striker’s third league goal since joining the club from Plateau United.

Paul Acquah made sure of the points 4 minutes after the restart (49th minute) of the second half from a rebound after Suraj Ayeleso had done well to keep out Sunday Adetunji’s close range volley.

Sunday Adetunji was unlucky not to add the third in the 79th after retrieving the ball from Pillars defenders and got a good sight of goal but his effort was was saved by Ayeleso.

Rivers United held on to their lead and  they will now turn attention to Adamawa United in their next game.

The match will be played on Sunday at 12,000 capacity multi-use Pantami Stadium in the Pantami district of Gombe, Gombe State, Nigeria.
