Abia Warriors goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke admits the club is not where they want to be yet, despite ending the first stanza of the 2020-2021 NPFL on a positive note.
Abia Warriors endured a slow start to the 2020-2021 Nigeria professional football league campaign, failing to pick a single point from the opening four matches.
The poor form led the club to abandon its adopted home Enyimba international stadium for a return to fortress, Okigwe township Stadium, where they pick their first three points of the campaign with a 4-1 win over Sunshine Stars.
Abia Warriors turned around the result completely and went on a streak of ten matches with a defeat before losing 5-3 to Nasarawa United in Lafia.
The club ended the first stanza in 10th position with 27 points from 19 matches played.
Reflecting on their performance in the first half of the campaign, Olorunleke admitted in an interview with brila.net that the poor affected the squad a bit, but he’s happy with their response.
” After the poor start, we just talked to ourselves and remain focus, but I will say, determination, togetherness, and hard work earns us the strong finish we had in the first stanza. Nothing more” he told brila.net
The former Akwa United’s goalkeeper added that the club is now focusing on starting the second stanza on a positive note.
“We’re picking it up from where we stopped definitely. The good work is going to continue because we haven’t gotten to where we wanted and desired yet. With God’s divine grace and strength, we’ll end excellently at the end of the season. We plead for their genuine support to continue bcos it counts a lot. ” He told brila.net.
