Vice president Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday, February 9, said Nigeria has set wheels on move in the fight against insurgency with the newly appointed service chiefs.
Osinbajo, who spoke at the registration and revalidation exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his hometown in Ikenne LGA of Ogun state, expressed this confidence, saying there is the hope of victory.
According to the VP, the new service chiefs came with fresh skills, enthusiasm and strategies needed to combat insecurity in the north and the country at large, hence no more excuse in the fight against terror, The Cable reports.
Osinbajo, who noted that Nigeria is in its “challenging times in history”, also assured that the counter-insurgency operation will devise technology for surveillance and intelligence gathering.
He also said that justice must prevail as those arrested for kidnapping and banditry will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“What we must ensure are prosecution of all those who have been arrested for kidnapping, banditry and all other forms of criminalities. “
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the military service chiefs to brutally attack the terrorists without further delay.
Speaking at the official commencement of the Kano-Katsina-Jibiya rail line project on Tuesday, Buhari said security chiefs must come up with new strategies to rout the insurgents.
I will end the war soon – Army boss Attahiru
The Nigerian Army said it will create a formidable partnership with neighbouring countries including Cameroon and Chad in order to see an end to the insurgency.
Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, chief of army staff, made this disclosure on Monday, February 8.
Attahiru, who addressed journalists at the Army Super Camp 1 Ngamdu in Yobe state, said he is anxious to end the war against Boko Haram terrorists and other criminal elements.
