Aliyu Aziz, the director-general of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has gotten the presidential nod to head the commission for a second term.
A statement by Abdulhamid Umar, the general manager, Operations and Corporate Communications, on Friday, November 22, said President Muhammadu Buhari has approved Aziz’s re-appointment.
Umar said the MIMC boss’s re-appointment was conveyed in a letter by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
“The president of the Federal Republic enjoins Engr. Aliyu Aziz to continue with the good work he is doing and take NIMC to the next level, in consonance with the federal government’s doctrine of integrity, transparency and accountability,” he said.
“This re-appointment is in pursuant to the NIMC ACT that provides two terms tenure for the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.’’
Aziz’s second term tenure starts on Friday, November 22.
Fielding questions from reporters at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, upon his return from a private visit from the United Kingdom on Friday, November 15, the president said it was unfortunate that his directive was interpreted as a sack.
He explained that the 35 aides were not sacked from the office of the vice president but were instead redeployed to a new ministry.
