The rising cases of COVID-19 in Kaduna have prompted the state government to close both public and private schools in the state.
Daily Trust reported that Shehu Muhammad Makarfi, the commissioner of education announced the closure of the schools on Monday, December 14.
He said the ministry decided to shut down the schools to contain the spread of the pandemic.
The commissioner disclosed all the academic institutions must comply with the directive latest on Wednesday, December, 16.
Makarfi said universities and other institutions of higher are expected to comply with the new measure.
The commissioner, however, pointed out that the academic institutions equipped with the necessary facilities can resort to online lessons.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has raised the possibility of imposing another lockdown if the COVID-19 surge in the state continues.
El-Rufai made the statement on Wednesday, December 9, when he spoke about the increasing number of cases in Kaduna, Daily Trust reported.
The governor said measures need to be taken to contain the spread of the virus in order to prevent the state’s health system from being overwhelmed by the disease.
In another new, the recent claim by the Nigerian Army that one of its top officers, Major-General Johnson Olu Irefin, died of COVID-19 complications has been challenged by his kinsmen.
The News magazine reports that Irefin’s relations under the umbrella of Ayetoro Gbede Traditional Council and Ayetoro Gbede Development Association demanded explanations.
The report added that the relations said they found the circumstances that led to the late major-general’s death very suspicious.
Reports about Irefin’s death emerged on Thursday, December 10 while he was attending the chief of army staff conference.
