Villarreal’s head coach Unai Emery has charged Samuel Chukwueze and his teammates to shift focus on their Europa League second leg semi-final clash with Arsenal.
Chukwueze was in action as the Yellow Submarines gave their hope of playing in Europe next season a boost with a 1-0 win over Getafe on Sunday.
The Nigerian winger who started the match lasted for 69th minutes and it was his replacement Yeremi Pino that eventually scored the winner ten minutes after coming on.
The next challenge for Villarreal will be against Arsenal in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals the second leg at the Emirates on Thursday and Emery hinted that his squad is up for the challenge.
“We’re all very excited with the Europa League semi-finals, but we needed to be able to compete in LaLiga too. We dug in because the way to be able to enjoy being in Europe is via LaLiga.”
“The players responded. It’s important to share work out among the team. We wanted to continue where we left off on Thursday.”
“We are going to go London with the idea of continuing to improve and strengthening certain things. The team is alive, enjoying the journey,” he concluded.
Villarreal leads 2-1 from the first leg and they must avoid defeat in London to avoid another European elimination in the hand of Arsenal.
