A video trending on Twitter has shown the emotional moment the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Gabriel Olonisakin got to his family home after his retirement from the Nigerian Armed Forces.
In the video shared by one Deji Adesogan, the ex-CDS was seen coming out of his official vehicle to the warm embrace of his wife and other family members who were singing and thanking God for a successful retirement.
An emotional Olonisakin also danced along with his family members and waved his hands high as the tunes played by a trumpeter got louder.
The four-star general removed his cap and acknowledged greetings from his family members before entering his home.
The video has been retweeted over 300 times, liked almost 1,000 times, and shared by many Twitter users in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, a democratic group has called on the immediate past service chiefs to always make themselves available for consultations by their successors.
The National Democratic Front said the past service chiefs’ wealth of experience can be used by their new colleagues in the effort to end the war against terrorism in Nigeria.
In a related development, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance and Transparency (CCSGGGT) on Wednesday, January 27, called on President Buhari to honour the outgoing service chiefs with meritorious awards.
A statement signed by the group’s conveners, Emmanuel Ogar and Abubakar Gana, and seen by Legit.ng said the chiefs should be given the award of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON).
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had promised to reorganise Nigeria’s security architecture in 2021.
The president made the promise in his 2021 new year message to Nigerians on Friday, January 1, adding that the security agencies will be trained adequately on how to engage, push back and dismantle the operations of both internal and external extremist and criminal groups.
